On 7 August 2024, The LPHCA had an initial online meeting with Simon Lightwood MP, who was recently appointed as Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Local Transport. This role covers a wide range of responsibilities, including taxis and private hire vehicles, local transport decarbonisation, accessibility, and transport connectivity across the UK.

During this introductory meeting, the need for National Standards within the taxi & PHV sector was highlighted by the LPHCA.  The Minister expressed his appreciation for the input, and senior officials have indicated the hope that a more detailed discussion could take place in the autumn following the summer recess.

This early engagement reflects the government’s recognition of the LPHCA and is a positive sign for future collaboration.
