One of the two e-learning courses that are part of the Save a Life Campaign, is Adult Basic Life Support with Automated External Defibrillation (BLS-AED). Although the understanding of Mental Health Awareness is just as crucial to acknowledge, it is also paramount to highlight the importance of Basic Life Support.

Everyone, no matter who you are, what background you are coming from, should understand and invest their time in knowing the importance of the subject matter, and not just for your working life, but also for your personal life.

That being said….

What is the value of Life? How do you perceive Life? I am sure to these questions there would be various opinions and answers. However, how do you personally make a difference in saving a life? We live in surrounding environments where many charities and organisations that offer various tools are available, but how many offer them directly and without any conditions in making a difference in supporting you to learn and understand how to save a life, if found to be in that situation. According to the British Hearth Foundation, an average of 460 deaths each day or one every three minutes in the UK in the year 2022 just from heart attacks alone.

In actual reality, if we truly break it down, how many of those lives lost could have been saved, if there was knowledge of administrating the use of a defibrillator, or even the awareness of where someone could find one, if in need to use one.

Through much research that I carried out  within the taxi and private hire industry and  talking with the many, it was shocking to find that majority of drivers, as well as fleet owners and operators, had no recollection of where the nearest AED (Automated External Defibrillator) was or how to actually use one. Now… this is not just related to taxi and private hire industry, but it is a universally based trend in all industries. However, we can make those changes within the industry itself by taking an active approach, own it and invest in the knowledge that will make that difference.

Just over 10 years ago, I had a close friend  who was always physically fit and took her health and level of fitness  seriously through sporting activities  amongst many other pursuits. However, one day in January 2013, she unfortunately collapsed, in the middle of her working environment, due to a cardiac arrest. Fortunately on that day, the company my friend worked for, had an AED on site and staff members that had knowledge and could correctly administer the use and process of one. For this reason, until the paramedics arrived, they were able to save her life. However, not all are so fortunate, and if you are found in one of those crucial moments and you could, this can save that life.

This is why Safety as a Standard have taken that initial step in helping fleets and their respected driver workforce to participate in a no nonsense, no strings attached Save a Life campaign. As part of the campaign, through our e-learning training platform, everyone will have the opportunity to undertake and gain fundamental understanding of learning Adult Basic Life Support with Automated External Defibrillation (BLS-AED).

Save a Life campaign is no gimmick, on the contrary it is a vital ingredient to help everyone in the industry. WHY?
