Gett, a leading black cab and corporate ground travel platform, has set a goal for all black cab and PHV rides in London to become zero emission capable by 2027, ahead of the Mayor of London’s target to make the city net zero carbon by 2030. Currently, close to 60% of all journeys booked through the app are completed by an electric or hybrid vehicle. The number has almost doubled since 2020, with black cabs in particular showing a rapid transition to environmentally friendly vehicles.

To help accelerate the transition to greener rides, Gett offers drivers on its app a number of incentives, including charging discounts, reduced prices on home charging equipment, as well as EV rental, warranty and service discounts.

All current Gett rides in the UK are carbon neutral – the company offsets 100% of CO2 emissions resulting from the use of black cabs and private hire vehicles via its partnership with EcoAct. In 2023, Gett offset 466 tonnes of carbon dioxide towards two EcoAct projects – the Maranhão Wind Power project in Brazil and the Sujawal Mangroves in Pakistan.

Gett UK also donates 2p for every ride to Trees for Cities, a charity focused on bringing trees and plants to local communities. Matteo De Renzi, Gett CEO commented: “Urban transport plays a pivotal part in the energy transition. UK cities are among the global leaders in EV adoption and we are proud to launch this formal commitment to facilitating emission-free travel for hundreds of thousands of our riders.”
