Ground Transport Group (GTG) was delighted to attend the EV Infrastructure and Energy Summit (EVIE Summit 2024) as media partners. The event, held on the 1st and 2nd of October, brought together key figures from the electric vehicle (EV) industry for two days of in-depth discussions, networking, and the exploration of future trends. My colleague, Leah Wright-Tiramakea, and I were thrilled to engage with the thought leaders and innovators driving change in EV infrastructure and sustainable energy solutions.

Insightful Panels and Cutting-Edge Exhibitions

Spanning three rooms, the summit featured a diverse array of panels on topics ranging from EV charging infrastructure to fleet electrification, energy management, and financing the transition to electric mobility. The accompanying exhibition allowed attendees to explore the latest technology in EV solutions, offering a tangible sense of how the sector is evolving. The networking opportunities were invaluable, fostering connections across various industries.

A standout session for us was the exploration of financing the EV transition, where leading experts tackled how to scale EV adoption, and the infrastructure required to meet increasing demand. The discussions shed light on critical industry advancements, while also highlighting existing challenges.

The Collaborative Future of EVs

Collaboration emerged as a central theme throughout the event. Speakers from all sectors—energy, transportation, local government, and business—emphasised the need for working together to accelerate EV adoption and expand infrastructure. Companies like GridBeyond were highlighted for their advancements in energy management, which are essential for ensuring the grid can support widespread EV charging. ZOOZ Power stood out for their innovative flywheel technology, designed to enable ultra-fast charging without overloading the grid.

Other notable companies such as Autel Europe, ChargePoint, and Paythru are making great strides in streamlining the EV user experience. Their focus on creating seamless, user-friendly payment systems and enhancing the accessibility of charging stations is helping to alleviate common pain points faced by EV drivers.

Cross-Sector Collaboration: A Unified Approach

Attendees included key decision-makers from a range of industries, such as transport policy managers, decarbonization directors, and business development leads from companies like First Bus, OVO Energy, and J.P. Morgan. These cross-sector representatives contributed to a lively exchange of ideas, helping to bridge gaps between policy development, technological innovation, and practical application.

We were also pleased to reconnect with industry leaders such as Andy Papa from Autel UK, Sara Sloman from Paythru, and Alec Peachey from Transport + Energy. Their insights and expertise continue to shape the narrative around decarbonising transport and building a more sustainable future.

Future Outlook: Collaboration Is Essential

The EVIE Summit 2024 reinforced the idea that the future of electric vehicle infrastructure depends on effective collaboration between industries. Whether it’s aligning policy, innovating technology, or scaling infrastructure, the entire EV ecosystem must work together to achieve the overarching goal of net-zero emissions and a fully developed EV charging network.

The event provided a critical platform for reflecting on both the progress and the challenges ahead. At GTG, we remain committed to supporting these conversations and contributing to the movement towards a cleaner, more connected future in transport.
